Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery at Wilmette Family Dental

Oral Surgery Requires Additional Training

Here at Wilmette Family Dental Dr. Limperis was educated and trained in oral and maxillofacial dentistry. After he completed dental school he went on for another four years of surgery based training. Here he was trained alongside other medical students in the techniques of emergency medicine, general surgery and anesthesiology. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon is the only type of surgeon, other than anesthesiologists, who can offer all levels of sedation up to general anesthesia.

Surgery Procedures Performed by Dr. Limperis

The most common procedures that Dr. Limperis performs are tooth extractions, which often require sedation. Removing impacted wisdom teeth is a routine procedure here at Wilmette Family Dental.

Sometimes a patient may have a misaligned bite that cannot be solved by orthodontics. In this situation the patient would receive corrective jaw surgery. This procedure may also be recommended if the patient has congenital abnormalities (birth defects) or to treat skeletal problems. If this is recommended Dr. Limperis may suggest reshaping jaw bones or repositioning jaws and teeth. It’s not uncommon to coordinate this procedure with the patients orthodontist.

Other common surgeries are:

  • Cleft palate or cleft lip surgery
  • Cosmetic and restorative dental work
  • Placement of dental implants
  • Bone grafting when required in the placement of dentures
  • Facial trauma surgeries
  • TMJ treatment when non-surgical treatment is unsuccessful
  • Oral cancer biopsies
  • Dental implants
  • Outpatient Anethesia
